Crossing boundaries and bringing opposites together – that is what defines Alexander Maria Lohmann‘s artistic work. The photo and multimedia artist records moods, condenses them and places them in a new context. He travels the world with his camera to capture the perfect moment in remote, hostile and dangerous places. Lohmann‘s credo: to step out of his comfort zone while constantly reinventing
himself. His subjects span a wide range from pristine landscapes, animals, and people to metropolises, amusement parks, and war zones; his media include photography, digital collage, analog mixed media, acrylic printing, and video installations. By combining different motifs and techniques, the concrete with the abstract, he creates exciting contrasts and surprising perspectives. The quality of his work is internationally recognized: Lohmann is represented at art fairs such as Art Basel in Miami as well as in numerous renowned galleries, for instance in Amsterdam, Barcelona, or London, as well as in Leica Galleries. Currently, his works are on display in a solo exhibition in Monaco.
For his latest project, „Mensch klein – Natur groß“ (Human Small – Nature Big), Lohmann once again pushed himself to physical limits: In the icy heights of the Himalayas, he captured spectacular summit portraits of unearthly grandeur. Digitally collaged with corresponding or contrasting subjects from Nepal or New York City, or painted over by hand, he transformed them into unique works of art. And also
photographically, Lohmann again explored boundaries by photographing rock formations and wild mustangs in North American national parks in a completely new way. By superimposing countless shots of the same subject, some out of focus or blurred in long exposures, he achieved previously unseen, mystical-looking effects.
